Hakim-hakim 4:6

Konteks

4:6 She summoned 1  Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali. She said to him, “Is it not true that the Lord God of Israel is commanding you? Go, march to Mount Tabor! Take with you ten thousand men from Naphtali and Zebulun!

Hakim-hakim 7:8

Konteks
7:8 The men 2  who were chosen 3  took supplies 4  and their trumpets. Gideon 5  sent all the men of Israel back to their homes; 6  he kept only three hundred men. Now the Midianites 7  were camped down below 8  in the valley.

Hakim-hakim 8:27

Konteks
8:27 Gideon used all this to make 9  an ephod, 10  which he put in his hometown of Ophrah. All the Israelites 11  prostituted themselves to it by worshiping it 12  there. It became a snare to Gideon and his family.

Hakim-hakim 14:8

Konteks
14:8 Some time later, when he went back to marry 13  her, he turned aside to see the lion’s remains. He saw 14  a swarm of bees in the lion’s carcass, as well as some honey.

Hakim-hakim 15:6

Konteks
15:6 The Philistines asked, 15  “Who did this?” They were told, 16  “Samson, the Timnite’s son-in-law, because the Timnite 17  took Samson’s 18  bride and gave her to his best man.” So the Philistines went up and burned her and her father. 19

Hakim-hakim 16:3

Konteks
16:3 Samson spent half the night with the prostitute; then he got up in the middle of the night and left. 20  He grabbed the doors of the city gate, as well as the two posts, and pulled them right off, bar and all. 21  He put them on his shoulders and carried them up to the top of a hill east of Hebron. 22

Hakim-hakim 21:8

Konteks
21:8 So they asked, “Who from all the Israelite tribes did not assemble before the Lord at Mizpah?” Now it just so happened no one from Jabesh Gilead had come to the gathering. 23

[4:6]  1 tn Heb “sent and summoned.”

[7:8]  2 tn Heb “The people.”

[7:8]  3 tn The words “who were chosen” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[7:8]  4 tn The Hebrew text has “in their hands.”

[7:8]  5 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Gideon) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[7:8]  6 tn Heb “tents.”

[7:8]  7 tn Heb “Midian.”

[7:8]  8 tn The Hebrew text adds “him” (i.e., Gideon).

[8:27]  9 tn Heb “made it into.”

[8:27]  10 sn In Exod 28:4-6 and several other texts an ephod is described as a priestly or cultic garment. In some cases an ephod is used to obtain a divine oracle (1 Sam 23:9; 30:7). Here the ephod is made of gold and is described as being quite heavy (70-75 lbs?). Some identify it as an idol, but it was more likely a cultic object fashioned in the form of a garment which was used for oracular purposes. For discussion of the ephod in the OT, see C. F. Burney, Judges, 236-43, and R. de Vaux, Ancient Israel, 349-52.

[8:27]  11 tn Heb “Israel” (a collective singular).

[8:27]  12 tn The words “by worshiping it” are supplied in the translation for clarity.

[14:8]  13 tn Heb “get.”

[14:8]  14 tn Heb “and look, a swarm of bees…”

[15:6]  15 tn Or “said.”

[15:6]  16 tn Heb “and they said.” The subject of the plural verb is indefinite.

[15:6]  18 tn Heb “his”; the referent (Samson) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[15:6]  19 tn The Hebrew text expands the statement with the additional phrase “burned with fire.” The words “with fire” are redundant in English and have been omitted from the translation for stylistic reasons. Some textual witnesses read “burned…her father’s house,” perhaps under the influence of 14:15. On the other hand, the shorter text may have lost this phrase due to haplography.

[16:3]  20 tn Heb “And Samson lay until the middle of the night and arose in the middle of the night.”

[16:3]  21 tn Heb “with the bar.”

[16:3]  22 tn Heb “which is upon the face of Hebron.”

[21:8]  23 tn Heb “Look, no one had come to the camp from Jabesh Gilead to the assembly.”
